Happy washroom

The place where your washing machine is located is a place where you work purposefully, and where you prefer to leave quickly. But if you have four children (read a lot!), you come there often. And if your washroom is not a pleasant place, laundry becomes a punishment.

Our laundry system in house was divided over 2 different places. Our washer and dryer were in the hall closet downstairs, and on top of the third floor was part 2 where there were also drying racks.

There was a lot of lugging around with the laundry all over the house. Always looking for places where it could be folded (usually on the knees on the landing) Nee, washing did not become my hobby in this way. It had to be different!

Room becomes laundry room

On the second floor we had another room available where there used to be a kitchenette. (2 composite houses) We decided that the complete washing facility should be located in this central location in the middle of the house. My wish was that this would be a pleasant place. So no plastic laundry baskets, white veneered cabinets. I just wanted a lot of warm natural materials. It had to become a place where I felt comfortable being. So that I could also keep going for a long time with the laundry!

Solid wood and natural materials

We chose solid wood as the basis for the space (budget friendly) (the branches)cabinets from IKEA. We finished this with pine boards from the DIY store. A fresh combination with the white floor that was already there. I had devised a sorting plan for the dirty and clean laundry.

Basket system from XENOS

It seemed super useful to me (and beautiful!) to start working with baskets. Baskets have a warm natural look, which in turn fits perfectly with the solid wooden cabinets.

The plan: in every bedroom a high laundry basket for dirty laundry. And for every person in the house a flat basket in the laundry room for the clean laundry.

And then of course train the children to pick up their laundry themselves!

I chose this one high narrow basket from XENOS for the bedrooms. A laundry basket is not an eyesore in this way!

Compartments cupboard for clean laundry

I chose flat baskets van XENOS for the hand-made compartments for the clean laundry. After the laundry, I can now conveniently put the clean and dry laundry per person in the flat baskets. This way the children can always pick up their own basket of clean laundry. This system is of course especially useful when children are a bit older!

But it is also nice for yourself to be able to immediately put the laundry away sorted if you do not have time to store it in the cupboards..

There is a compartment for each basket in the handmade cabinet!

Wardrobe closet

I decorated the laundry room with some air-purifying plants.

It now feels like a wonderful, pleasant room to be! The room is adjacent to the bedroom, where these same cabinets are. In this way it really is one (warm) entirely, and the bedroom looks even bigger! The rooms are more connected by the unit. For those who are curious? My clothes are in the closets. These are now my wardrobe closets, so that I have more space in the bedroom for other things!
