From transparent to blackout: these are the types you can choose from

In the living room you would like a fabric that still allows light to come through. To what extent depends on the type of fabric. This is how you have sheer curtains, which are also known as net curtains. You can see through this well and this is where the most light comes through. This immediately creates an optically more spacious living room. But mind you: people from outside can also see through this fabric.

Do you live on a busy street and are you not waiting for peepers? Then translucent curtains are probably a better option. These fabrics are also suitable for the living room, because there is still enough light coming through. The fabric is woven a bit closer than that of net curtains, so you can see through it a little more difficult.

Are you looking for curtains for the bedroom or children's room? Then you better opt for curtains or even dim-out curtains. These curtains are made of blackout fabric. Always check with the supplier whether the fabric is genuine 100% is obscuring, because sometimes there is still some residual light coming through. In some cases you can opt for an extra lining fabric, but you can also combine your curtains with a blackout roller blind, to give just one example.

Determining the right color for your new curtains

Many webshops and stores offer free color samples, so that you are at home – relax – can determine the color. However, don't just do that from your lazy chair or at the dining table, but get started actively with the color samples. Stick them on your window for a whole day, so you can see how the color looks in the morning, in the afternoon and evening.

Ambient lighting also influences the color. Also keep the color samples a little closer to the lamps, so you can see what the effect of this is on the color. And of course you want to match the color of your new curtains with your walls and possibly floor. So there is work to be done with the free color samples! 

Determine the closure of your curtains

We don't worry too much about the size of your curtains (5 centimeters wider is not such a problem, 5 centimeters narrower than again. But you know that yourself). What could be given some extra attention, is the closing of your curtains.

You probably already know the classic center closure, but do you also know that you can choose from a closure on the right side or the left side? With a center closure, your curtain consists of two parts, at the closure on the left- or right side your curtain consists of one part.

Depending on your interior and its layout, you determine the layout of your curtains. You don't want to have to climb over the couch or step behind that fragile vase to open and close your curtains.. So don't just choose what's beautiful, but also that which is practical.
