I think sending a birth announcement is okay 1 of the cutest baby traditions out there. Despite today's digitization and the increasingly expensive postage stamp, I really hope this habit continues.

When I 15 years ago in 2006 got pregnant for the first time, I had to deal with the phenomenon of birth cards. I got large baby card sample books at a print shop in my city, and struggled through them all. It was not a success.

The cards didn't appeal to me enough. I thought they were too big and too standard. Like I already have them 10 x in my bus. I brought back the books, and went to search the internet.

Cardmix has been around since 1999 (!) So a website with a lot of experience.

Inspired by the past when birth announcements were much smaller than now, I also wanted the ticket for our first son Tommy in a small similar size. The birth announcements that you usually see now are in sizes 12 x 12 cm, and 14x14cm.

A baby is small, and I just thought that there was also a little sweet card with it. I wanted the format 13x8cm folded in half. This option was not a problem with Card Mix!

The card could be composed completely according to your wishes. Add a picture, picture off, colors, the font everything was possible.

Our first birth announcement was a success!

This way of personalizing your own card was so good, that the subsequent tickets for our 3 daughters out 2008, 2011, en 2014 were also ordered at Cardmix.

Each card received the 13 x8 cm format again, and a baby illustration on the front. Same style, but still just a little different. Because every child is unique too!

The tickets are different, but together they form a whole. And I thought that was a great idea!

We are now in 2021 And can we expect another baby soon! Of course I went directly to my trusted Cardmix address. Except that the tickets were always to your liking, the service was also correct and fast. So you choose again for a bit of certainty.

Self-designing

Via de self design category choose elements that you would like to see on the map. So you don't have to be a graphic designer to make a card. Which by the way is allowed if you have these qualities!

You can choose a fixed setup that you only adjust in the name (naturally) but you can also choose all individual pictures that you put together to your desired result.

I chose this last option. So you designed the card a bit yourself, and you won't see it in someone else so soon.

On the site you can choose from dozens of designers. This time I initially chose most figures from the category SweetTwist. (with the pram from the Pique collection ) Simplistic and a tad stubborn.

every flower, petal, baby hat, you can put together all the details yourself.

But you can also combine it with your own image, or even a photo!

I thought it was calmer eyes 1 to keep style.

The result

Een proof print is very nice, because then you can see if the birth announcement is what you expected it to be in real life. Is the image sharp?? the paper feels nice? and the font size is correct?

we had in 2011 no proof ordered, and then we are finally on the final map our names (!) to forget. Otherwise we would have seen this immediately on the proof! A learning moment.

So my tip, always order one test print!

Free trial cards

Bij Kaartmix.nl is the possibility to paper types to be able to view and feel before you finally order the tickets. Only Cardmix came up with something fun. The test papers are printed like beautiful postcards!

Except that you already get a bit of an idea what a card looks like in that paper type, do you have a nice set of postcards left.
Which is also a lot more environmentally friendly than throwing in the trash!

In the end we only reduced the name in the card a bit, en 1 color adjusted. But otherwise the card was completely perfect in terms of paper type and size. I chose default papier, but I actually think this paper can be described as luxury. It is nice and sturdy and has a subtle matte sheen.

New design

Nothing is more fickle than a pregnant woman! After a week it started to itch. Was this card the best option? I decided to start designing again on Cardmix. Luckily it's also a lot of fun to do!

I started working with PIQUE A super sweet collection with sweet drawings. This time I chose a subtle blue background to make the illustrations stand out even more.

Within a few days I had a new test print at home. So glad I did this after all. Now it felt all right!

17 December our son Floris was born, and the 18th I was already in the maternity bed ordering the tickets!

The design is saved in your personal Cardmix account. It's just a matter of adjusting the date and some data and pressing the order button!

We are again very happy with this sweet card!

Na 1,5 working day we already had the tickets at home. There is nothing better than being able to tell the world that your baby has been born as soon as possible!
