You can dim before the driver or dim after the driver. For the driver, primary means dimming and this is the most common way to dim your LED lighting. This is dimming on mains power, 220 Volt. In order to be able to dim primarily, the driver must be dimmable. The other way is secondary dimming. Then you are busy after the driver and also with low voltage, on DC. The driver or transformer does not have to be dimmable. This method is often used with LED strips.

Led strips are also a lot of fun to use (adolescent) office to pimpem!

The future
LED lighting is the future! The technological development, also those of light sources, goes at a tremendous speed. In 1881 mankind was introduced to Edison's incandescent lamp and now the halogen lamp and the energy saving lamp are also obsolete. Most energy-saving lamps are not dimmable! There is currently a considerable choice of light sources. You can still go to some stores for a light bulb or one 230 Volt halogen lamp, a 12 Volt halogen lamp, a CFL or a LED lamp. When dimming LED lamps, you have to take a few things into account. A LED dimmer is necessary to dim your LED lamps properly.

The old halogen dimmer will not work properly because the old dimmer has a minimum power of 50 Watt needs and the LED lamp often does not achieve that. An LED lamp of 8 Watt already gives more than enough light. By using the old dimmer, the LED lamp will flicker and you don't want that. LED built-in dimmers do have the right power to make your LED lighting function properly.

And if you have open lamps like the photo above, you also want the lamps to be dimmed very softly.

In short, with a dimmer on your lamps, bring your atmosphere into your home!
